Why plastic welding is the best method of joining plastics together

When creating plastic structures by joining plastics together there are a few different methods, but welding offers the best strength and can also be simple to do with the right equipment. Hot air tools are used to weld plastic structures together, and this could be for a huge range of different applications.

All around the world you will find plastic being used, and that is because it has so many beneficial features. It is strong, waterproof and affordable, and it can be used for all kinds of different applications and in a range of different industries. A few examples include for consumer products such as cups, bowls, toys, food packaging, electrical items and cutlery, it can also be used for a wide range of automotive parts, for testing and surgical equipment, military applications, breathing aides, tarpaulin, sunshade covers, shower curtains, vinyl flooring amongst many more purposes. In order to create these types of plastic structures you will need to join plastics together, and this can be done with a few different methods.

Chemical bonding uses adhesives and solvents to join plastics together, whilst mechanical bonding will use screws and snap fits to make a join between the two. Both of these methods can work, but they are not as effective as molecular bonding. This offers better strength and the join will not deteriorate in quality over time. In addition, molecular bonding can be simple and straightforward to carry out with the right tools and machines. It is achieved through the process of plastic welding, which uses hot air tools to create a join between two compatible thermoplastics. This includes plastics such as PVC, PP, LDPE, MDPE, HDPE and ABS.

The type of tool that you need to create a bond between plastics will depend on the application, as well as the thickness of the plastic. Thin plastics in the range of 3-8mm will require a hand held tool such as a heat gun, which will allow for complete precision. Thicker plastics will require an extrusion gun, which uses a thicker bead of plastic which will allow for a strong enough join to be made. In addition to these, there are also specialist tools for certain applications, such as a vinyl floor welding machine and a PVC banner welding machine. Any tool or machine used for welding plastics will need to be of high standard, as this way you can be sure that you will get accurate results and a join that will not let you down.

When creating any type of plastic structure it is always best to opt for molecular bonding. This offers superior strength and reliability, and it can also be carried out with ease when you have all the right tools and machines for the job. This could be for tarpaulin, vinyl flooring, a marquee, shower curtain, a roof membrane, consumer product or any other type of plastic structure that requires the joining of two different plastics together.
